Friends?

Coming to college has taught me many things. It has taught me a lot of the different types of people there are in the world. People definitely aren't what you expect them to be. They can be very racist, immature, insecure, abused, or maybe even alcoholic. Truthfully, you never know what people are going through. You might think that you're going to be the best of friends throughout your years in college the first day you meet them. You may even think that you won't ever talk to them again in life.

But one thing I've come to realize about people is that they don't change. People don't change just because they're in college. They don't become less afraid or smarter or more mature. They all stay the same. The same people that gossiped about others in high school are the same ones who do it in college. The ones that partied all the time are most likely still doing it. You have the same problems you had in high school. If you didn't do your work then, then you probably aren't doing it now. Nothing is going to be different.

I know this sounds sad, but I've decided that it's crazy to befriend people on a certain level. I don't think I have any friends because of fear that they can't be trusted. I don't keep anyone too close to me for fear that they'll betray me in one way or another. In college it's easier to see what kind of a person they are because you live with them.

What do you think about college friendships?
